Don’t see your plan? Call us. We accept most dental insurance providers and work with many plans not listed here.
Two people with the same insurance company can have very different coverage, because employers choose different plans. That is why we check your specific plan before treatment instead of guessing. Here is what happens:
Coverage depends on your plan. We check your exact benefits before treatment. Cosmetic treatments such as veneers and whitening are often not covered, and orthodontic benefits like aligner coverage vary widely from plan to plan.
| Term | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Annual maximum | The most your plan will pay toward your care in a benefit year. Once it is reached, you pay the rest until the plan resets. |
| Deductible | The amount you pay before the plan starts sharing costs for certain services. Many plans waive it for preventive care. |
| Coinsurance | Your percentage of the cost after the deductible, for example a share of a filling or a crown. |
| Waiting period | Some plans require you to be enrolled for a set time before they cover basic or major care. |
| Frequency limits | Rules on how often a service is covered, such as two cleanings per year. |
| In-network vs. out-of-network | In-network dentists have agreed fees with the plan. Out-of-network benefits differ by plan, so we check before treatment. |
| Explanation of benefits (EOB) | The statement your insurer sends after a claim showing what was billed, what it paid and what you owe. |
Many plans reset at the start of the calendar year, and unused benefits usually do not roll over. If you have treatment planned, it can make sense to schedule part of it before your plan resets and the rest after, so that two annual maximums share the cost. Ask us to map this out when we review your plan.
Preventive visits are where most plans are most generous. Coming in for your cleanings and exams helps catch small problems while they are still inexpensive to fix, which protects your annual maximum for bigger needs.
Most plans treat routine cleanings, exams and X-rays as preventive care, so many patients pay little or nothing for them. Frequency limits apply, which is why we schedule your visits within the time your plan allows.
These are usually basic services. Your plan pays a share after any deductible, and you pay the rest. We give you an estimate of your portion before we begin.
Major services usually have a lower coverage percentage and count heavily against your annual maximum. Some plans cover implants and some do not. When the plan leaves a balance, financing can spread it into monthly payments.
If several family members are on the same plan, we can check everyone’s benefits at once and try to schedule cleanings back to back. Each person on the plan usually has their own annual maximum, and children’s coverage can differ from adults’, so we look at each member separately.
When your employer switches carriers or you start a new job, bring us your new card before your next visit. A new plan may have a waiting period for basic or major care, and checking ahead keeps surprises off your bill.
After each claim, your insurance company sends an explanation of benefits, often called an EOB. It is not a bill. It lists the date of service, the procedure codes billed, the amount your plan allowed, what the plan paid and what may remain for you. Compare it with the statement from our office. If something does not line up, call us and we will go through it with you line by line.
Keep your EOBs together through the year. They show how much of your annual maximum you have used, which helps when you plan larger treatment such as crowns or dentures.
You can still be seen. New patients and emergency patients get a free consultation, and we give you a written price before any treatment starts. Several treatments have set prices: porcelain veneers $950 per tooth, mini dental implants $16,500, and Invisalign or Dandy clear aligners $3,600. Prices are for typical cases and are confirmed after your exam.
Paying out of pocket also means no waiting periods, no frequency limits and no annual maximum to plan around. We explain each fee before you agree to treatment, and you can combine financing with a credit card if that works better for your budget.
