Emergencies happen

Injuries to your teeth and jaw can happen at any time and the pain can often be unbearable. Our team can help relieve your pain until you can be treated during regular office hours.

Don’t wait for treatment

Waiting to treat an emergency can put your overall dental and oral health at risk, and could even make the problem worse. Call our Dallas dentists at Buckner Family Dental at 214-328-3595 to take care of your dental emergency needs. We look forward to hearing from you!

What counts as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any problem that causes severe pain, bleeding or swelling, or that could cost you a tooth if it waits. Call Buckner Family Dental at 214-328-3595 if you have any of these:

  • Severe or throbbing toothache
  • A knocked-out or loose adult tooth
  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • Swelling in your face, jaw or gums, or signs of an abscess
  • A lost filling or crown
  • Bleeding that won’t stop after an extraction or injury

Go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 if facial swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, or if you have a jaw fracture or heavy bleeding.

What to do right now

Knocked-out tooth

Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing, and try to put it back in the socket. If you can’t, keep it in milk and call us right away. A tooth has the best chance of being saved within about an hour.

Broken or cracked tooth

Rinse with warm water, save any pieces, and hold a cold compress on your cheek to reduce swelling. Call us to be seen as soon as possible.

Severe toothache or swelling

Rinse with warm salt water and gently floss to remove trapped food. Do not put aspirin directly on the gum. Swelling can mean an infection, so call us the same day.

Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side. Call us to have it re-cemented or replaced.

How much does emergency dental care cost?

Emergency visits at Buckner Family Dental start at around $300, depending on the treatment you need, such as an extraction or a root canal. We accept most dental insurance, and CareCredit financing is available. Read more in our dental care FAQ.

Related care

Many emergencies are treated with root canal therapy, a tooth extraction or a dental crown. If you lost a tooth, ask about dental implants. Call 214-328-3595 for help today.
