Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are made to fit over and cover the front surface of your teeth. The shells are bonded to the tooth itself and have a natural appearance without extensive shaping. This makes them a good alternative to cosmetic dental crowns. They are stain-resistant and can last more than 10 years if treated properly. This makes them a fast and cost-effective way to improve the look and shape of your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are used to fix a variety of dental issues including misaligned teeth, irregularly shaped teeth, broken teeth, gaps between teeth and discolored teeth.
Dr. Jaime Osorio, DDS will examine your teeth to ensure you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers. X-rays or impressions of your teeth may need to be taken at this time. Once you are approved for veneers, we will prepare the teeth by removing a small amount of tooth enamel. A model of the tooth will then be made and sent to a dental laboratory, where your porcelain veneers will be made. One to two weeks later you will have a second visit during which the veneers will be trimmed and shaped to ensure proper fitment over your teeth. Your teeth will be cleaned and etched, and then your dentist will apply special dental cement to adhere the veneer to your teeth. A special light is used to harden the cement quickly, and any excess cement will be removed.
